Termination of pregnancy: Procedures for safe abortions

A pregnancy can be terminated using either a medical or surgical process. The correct process for your termination will depend on the stage of your pregnancy as well as your preference. Malaika womens abortion clinic offers both types of safe abortion procedures:

The Medical Process at a Malaika women abortion clinic

The medical process can only be used to terminate  pregnancies. The abortion is performed by using a combination of two medications which work together to terminate the pregnancy. The first medication blocks the hormone called progesterone. Without progesterone the pregnancy will not be sustained. The second medication opens the cervix (mouth of the womb) and causes the uterus (womb) to contract, this will cause the pregnancy to be expelled. After you take the medication, the process is completed at home.

.The Surgical Process at a Malaika women's abortion Clinic

The process may be performed up to 24 weeks of pregnancy but is less complicated the earlier it is completed. You will be seen by a provider at one of our centres, who will examine you and may perform an ultrasound to confirm how far pregnant you are. You may be given medication to open the cervix (mouth of the womb). During your consultation, our nurses and doctors will recommend which safe abortion procedure is right for you. Malaika women's abortion prices are affordable and abortion pill are couriered across South Africa.

Depending on the stage of pregnancy, abortion pills or other options may be the right choice for you. Malaika women's abortion clinic South Africa offers two types of safe abortion procedures:

Ultrasonography

Ultrasound scans are modern medical tests that use high-frequency sound waves to capture live images of the structures inside of your body. The technology is similar to radar and sonar technology, which aid the military in detecting ships and planes.

In the medical field, ultrasounds allow your doctor to detect issues with your organs, vessels, and other tissue without needing to make any incisions. Unlike other imaging techniques, ultrasound doesn’t use radiation. This is why it is the preferred method of viewing and monitoring babies during pregnancy

Getting an ultrasound

The ultrasound process

Before the examination, we may ask you to please change into a gown. We will ask you to lie down on the examination table and expose the area that needs to be scanned. Our doctor will apply a lubricating jelly to the area so that the equipment can easily glide along your skin without any friction. An ultrasound transducer sends a high-frequency sound wave into the area. The waves echo off of the internal structures and are reflected on the monitor - essentially mapping the internal structures for us. These images are highly detailed and allow us to detect any potential or developing issues.

Preparing for an Ultrasound

The practitioners at EasyMed are highly experienced and will discuss all of the preparatory steps you need to take before your scan. Your EasyMed practitioner may ask you to fast for 8 - 12 hours before your scan as an empty stomach can help us produce clearer images. If we're scanning specific internal organs, you may need to eat a fat-free meal the evening before your scan and then fast until your procedure. You will still be able to drink water and take any necessary medications. Be sure to let your doctor know which medications you’re currently taking, including any herbal supplements you’re taking.
